What is web 2.0?

A web 2.0 technology has been known to the public since 2004. This technology introduced a new way of using Internet. According to Wikipedia, Web 2.0 is associated with web applications that facilitate participatory information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design and collaboration on the World Wide Web. So it is unlike web 1.0 just browsing the internet and retrieving information. Here is a short video talking about how web 2.0 changes the world and how we think:

Some Web 2.0 Tools

Wikis are web pages that anybody can view and modify using Web browser and Internet. The good thing about wikis is that they provide users with both author and editor privileges. Therefore, they allow users to collaborate and exchange information, which result on spreading knowledge. In addition, wikis offer a powerful and flexible collaborative communication tool for developing content-specific Web sites. Wikis also allow faculty and students to engage in collaborative activities that might not be possible in a classroom. As a result, wikis are often monitored to ensure that inappropriate language, spam, and incorrect or inappropriate content are not allowed.

Twitter Was created in 2006 and rapidly gained worldwide popularity with 200 million users as of 2011. It is a social networking and microbligging service that allows you tell your friends or followers about what you doing. Twitter can be both for personal and business usages. Thus, it is a great way to keep in touch with your friends by broadcasting information about where you are and what you are up to. Also employees can use it to broadcast their companies’ latest news and blog posts, or interact with their customers.

RSS is a short for Rich Site Summary. It is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. It is a great feature to keep updated with the latest information and news around the world. So users don’t need to access many websites or search for any news, this feature basically saves their times and brings all what they need to their computers.

Personal experience with web 2.0

Regarding my experience with web 2.0 tools, I would admit that I am a brand new with Twitter and Blogs. I became a member in Twitter 2 months ago and a member in WordPress a month ago, so I can keep in touch with friends and follow people or even companies on twitter. Also as a new blogger, I found it very interesting and enjoyable to participate in various topics and read different thoughts.

  1. As you become a new member of twitter, Do you think gaining information become easier than before and how?

    • Well, it could be but in my point of view I would say Twitter is about connecting with friends, relatives and people or businesses who you may interested in rather than gaining information, however, Twitter’s Trending Topics might be a good way to gain information.

  2. good list of web 2.0 tools.. Twitter is my favourite in web 2.0 world. Even though I am not really active twitter user, I do read and my Timeline frequently. I guess the most important feature of twitter is Hashtag where we can follow topics in addition to following people e.g: Conference organizers and attendees often use Hashtags to communicate as a group quickly and effectively.
